NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

Neurophysiology Services at UMA

The Clinical Neurophysiology service assesses the function of the peripheral and central nervous system through objective, non-invasive tests.

We perform electromyography, electroneurography, evoked potentials and specialised studies for the diagnosis of neuromuscular, visual, auditory and spinal cord conditions, among others.

AREAS OF CARE

Available tests and studies

Electromyography and Electroneurography

Objective assessment of the peripheral nervous system: carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve entrapment, radiculopathies and neuropathies.

Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP)

Assesses the visual pathway from the retina to the occipital cortex; useful in optic nerve and demyelinating conditions.

Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP)

Assessment of the auditory pathway; screening for infant hearing loss and grading impairment in adults.

Somatosensory Evoked Potentials

Assesses conduction through the spinal cord; useful in multiple sclerosis, tumours and spinal trauma.

Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials

Assessment of the vestibular otoliths; useful in the study of vertigo and Ménière’s disease.

Pelvic Floor Neurophysiology

Study of sexual dysfunction, perineal pain and incontinence through EMG, ENG and reflex testing.
